When I was given the chance to review a mature anthology of demon ladies done by a Japanese artist…well, you all know where this is going. Hell Ladies is an anthology, or more like a retrospective of the career of Junko Mizuno. Mizuno is an aesthetic goal for me as she combines many things I like quite a bit: food, demons, the nude female form, kawaii culture and more all into one shockingly beautiful and incredibly mature art book.
If you’re a fan of kawaii culture or even the more morbid and mature, this art book is right for you. Hell Ladies is a beautifully unexpected find where cute meets deadly and adorable meets scary: all the things I love as a longtime fan of kawaii culture and as a certified thanatologist.
I can’t recommend this book enough and I hope you all enjoy it ,too.
