If you don’t want to hear jokes about sex, her grandfather’s dick surgery, or colorful Russian phrases, this album probably isn’t for you. If that sounds like your area of comedy, keep on reading. Sofiya Alexandra makes light of the fact that she grew up without a father, survived a repressive regime, and then turned it into the savage comedy of a woman who honestly doesn’t have time to worry about whether or not she hurt your feelings. She addresses racism head on in Father’s Day, which is awesome when you realize the album was recorded in November of 2019 in Bloomington, Indiana. Still, an album wasn’t enough for her. Along with the album being released on streaming sites, she’s also releasing three other projects, including a hotline for people without dads so they can get a phone call hearing their dad saying that he’s proud, yelling at you for wrecking the car, telling you your date isn’t good enough for you, oh and him accepting your sexuality. Remember, your dad is now Sofiya Alexandra. She is also releasing a book of tearaway postcards, written by her and illustrated by her friend Nick Ross. She’s even releasing giant gold hoop earrings for sale that say “Daddy Issues” because, well why the hell not?
