Ash & Thorn #4 is the ramp up. If (for me) #3 was mostly filler, well this issue is the beginning of the end.
With Peruvia and Lottie on different sides, the apocalypse isn’t going to be an easy win. Though Lottie does have Sarah and Pickle, they also don’t really have a plan, well a plan aside from baking. I have to admit I laughed at the bit where they decided that the Battle Scones might actually work. With Lottie, Sarah and Pickle baking, Peruvia is with Court and his giant monster. Or is he the monster? It’s maybe a bit confusing. Though, really, considering the big monster wants to devour the blood of every living thing, it maybe doesn’t matter who is who, as long as they are destroyed.
As with the rest of this series up to this point, I love this story. The characters are well fleshed out, the art is fun, and the dialogue is amusing.
I gotta admit, I want to be friends with the woman who wrote, “And who will be devoured by that delicious energy…” See? It’s lines like that that make this comic so amazing. The wit and the sass that Mariah McCourt gets across on these pages is impeccable.
The continued addition of Pickle’s Pantry is also a huge part of why I love this series. It’s so amusing, and I’m pretty sure that if it was excluded that the comic wouldn’t have the same punch to it.
