1986 was a rough year for the world. In January the world watched in horror on live television as the Challenger space shuttle broke apart in the air 73 seconds after launch. High school teacher Christa McAuliffe had been selected to be the first private citizen in space, so millions of school children had turned in to see the event and instead got a face full of trauma that still brings them to tears as adults today. The new Netflix Original Documentary Series, Challenger: The Final Flight is a four-party series that examines the space shuttle, the explosion, and the backstory of one of the most diverse crews that NASA had assembled up until this point. The series interviews family member’s of those lost in the explosion and experts weigh in on what went wrong. The series features training footage and rare archival material for those who have always wondered about the accident.
