The trench is all I’ve known. I was born in the trench and I’ll die in the trench.
I have been waiting and wiggling in my seat and waiting some more for this comic and it DOES. NOT. DISAPPOINT.
There isn’t much exposition so you don’t know why they’re stuck in the trench, or how long they’ve been stuck in the trench, but you don’t need that information to feel the life of being stuck in the trench.
The Trench Provides.
It’s one of the three rules that Pa has taught Millie and Mae and they live that life in the cold world. It’s all they know, and it makes the reader, or, well, it made me inexplicably sad. Post apocalyptic stories often make me angry, but without all the background info here, it just makes me sad. There is work and cold and fear of The Snowman, and that is it.
Lemire and Jock work together so well to make a reader feel. I want more, and I’m goign to continue to want more until I know everything about this world.
What is the snowman? Who were the Colden ones? Where is the rest of humanity? Like I said, I want to know everything, and I am going to suck at waiting.
comiXolgy has yet another hit on their hands, and if you are into Lemire’s work (which, if not, why are you here) his short story, also titled Snow Angels is available on Amazon.
