Interview with Ed Piskor

With Red Room coming next week, I was lucky to get a chance to ask a few questions of creator/writer Ed Piskor about this insane new comic. Red Room is releasing May 19th and I’ll have the review for the first issue on the day. I’m really looking forward to it.

Where’d the idea for Red Room come from?

I was thinking about what some good, visual, modern horrors exist that weren’t possible even 10 years ago and arriving at livestreaming murders on the darknet for customers who pledge untraceable bitcoin to have there disgusting requests processed seemed like something I could work with.
How do you think the storyline will hit with the current climate right now?
I make no predictions and have no expectations.
How and why did you go from Hip Hop Family Tree to Red Room?
Why not? Thankfully I’m in the position to make the comics I feel like making whenever the whimsy strikes me. I look forward to doing more HHFT at some point, now that you mention it.
What sort of insanity can we expect from this series? (No spoilers, just teases)
Given the predicament of Red Rooms as illustrated in the first answer, and the fact that each issue is pretty much self contained, I’m able to focus on different aspects of this scourge. The POV of the killers, the victims, the fans and patrons, etc. Nothing gets committed to paper unless it makes me feel unsettled. Definitely not the comic for most. It basically even says so on the cover of the first ish.
What comes next after this?
I have about 50% of the RED ROOM pages complete. It’s receiving all of my attention for the foreseeable future. That said, I have a million ideas and the best one will win out.
