I somehow missed the third issue of Lady Baltimore last month, so I’ll be doing a quick dual review today of issues three and four, but first… I really, really hate what Dark Horse is doing with the putting comic cover previews (ads) in the middle of the comics. It throws me off my rhythm completely when I’m reading and I really, really hope they stop it. With that being said, I still love this series.
The third issue is mostly fighting across all the main characters, who got separated and are doing their best to get back to each other safely. There was also a lovely scene between Imogen and Sofia; a bit of romance that made me smile huge. It also has one of my favorite quotes from the comic series yet.
….and the only thing worse than witches? Nazi witches.
Lady Baltimore issue four has even more fighting. This time with the added bonus of a golem! I love the story of the golem, it has always been one of my favorite “monsters” and I was glad to see it used so well here.
This issue also has a lot of German in it, so I had to keep a translation site open as I went along but it was worth it to understand all that witches and the Nazis were saying. This issue really ramped up the action, with a warlock who is more than he seemed, stronger witches ready to destroy the entire world for their own reasons, and, oh look, a giant monster? I love this story a lot but by the time we hit the medieval knight I was starting to think there might a be a bit too much getting stuffed in here. It’ll be interesting to see how it gets wrapped up, if it all continues to flow well and make sense, or if it’ll start becoming a ‘too many cooks in the kitchen’ kinda situation.
Lady Baltimore 3 released in May and Lady Baltimore 4 released on June 23rd from Dark Horse Comics.
