If you have not read the first book in the series, The Surviving Sky, prepare to be a bit confused. Though my copy clearly of The Unrelenting Earth clearly states it is as sequel, I somehow glossed over that when beginning this book. You can understand it, but it will take a lot more effort than just reading the first book and becoming more comfortable with terms and characters that have already been introduced. Don’t be like me, kids.
Author Kritika H. Rao’s writing is beautiful, and she grips you with compelling characters and a world that is somehow both familiar and strange in equal measure.
