Meera and Mark are on the hunt for a new home, finding that almost everything feels cookie cutter. Places named after the local forest have replaced the trees. Mark points out that as a child, spooky woods took over more of the area. His Aunt Mary lived in true fear of the forest, telling her family only that she had been attacked by something in the woods. After the two are involved in a car accident in the woods, they find themselves not only turned around but with no sign of the road anywhere nearby. As they pass one particular tree with a defining scar, they find themselves speaking to two farmers who seem very confused about what a phone might be. The two take off, passing the tree again, only to discover themselves in yet another time period. What follows is a story of time skips, towering old growth trees, and a forest that manipulates their experiences. The forest is alive and watching them.
Creator Norm Konyu, recent winner of the 2024 Aurora Award for Best Graphic Novel (A Call to Cthulhu) has a unique and colorful art style that gives The Space Between the Trees a dreamlike quality. The coloration of the graphic novel is not dark and oppressive, but there are enough color cues to warn the reader when something is about to go off the rails.
Pre-order The Space Between the Trees now from Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Books A Million, and Forbidden Planet for the UK & Europe. The Space Between the Trees comes to stores October 7, 2025.
