James and Alyssa are two teenagers with serious issues. Alyssa has severe anger problems and abandonment issues after her dad abandoned their family and her mom remarried a complete sleezeball. James is pretty sure he’s a psychopath and has spent his childhood killing small animals. If you’re already uncomfortable, do me a favor and put down the TV remote and go watch reruns of The New Girl, as The End of The F***ing World is really dark. After a bad day at school, Alyssa decides to smash her phone and convinces James to run away with her. In turn, James is working on figuring out how and when to murder Alyssa. James ends up punching his dad in the face and stealing his car. Pretty soon, they’ve crashed the car and broken into someone else’s house. Things go down hill quick and the two end up murdering the home’s resident.
The End of the F***king World has a few funny parts and very British humor. Be aware, there is violence and a lot of bleeding out. None of the characters are really all that likeable and more than once I wanted to tell Alyssa and James to call a therapist and get their lives right.
The show is only a handful of episodes, so it’s very easy to stream during a snowday or a weekend. If you’re really into dark humor, you may enjoy it. If you’re paranoid and worried someone is going to murder you, maybe skip it.
