To Ears With Love: ‘Fool Me Twice’ Tackles the World of Catfishing and Sweetheart Scams

You meet someone online, and they seem incredible. For some reason, they never want to video chat, but they are happy to send you a handful of pictures. Pretty soon you feel like you’ve fallen in love. Now they are telling you they’re desperately in need of money. It’s an accident, a car breaking down, caught traveling and losing their funds… Could you just send $500 to help them out?

As someone who was almost caught up in a sweetheart scam, I can tell you that it happens to the best of us. Enter Jules Hannaford and her daughter Zara Hannaford. After Jules was scammed by a man named Truman, she turned her trauma and disbelief into a memoir with the name Fool Me Twice. Zara took it to the next level and created a podcast with her mom with the same name, to teach others about Sweetheart Scams, Catfishing, and how to fight back.

While Fool Me Twice is only 9 episodes, they are packed with information.  Zara interviews people who have lost everything, legal professionals, law enforcement, and her own mother to promote ways to protect yourself online and avoid being scammed. This podcast is crazy good, and once you start it’s hard not to binge all the episodes.

Fool Me Twice is available on all major podcast platforms.
