To Ears With Love: 1619

For podcast listeners looking to understand the history of Slavery in the United States, including the major impact on even today, 1619 is an incredibly powerful podcast I suggest putting on right away. 1619 is hosted by Nikole Hannah-Jones of the New York Times.  The podcast began in exploration of slavery on the 400th anniversary of the start in the United States. 1619 was the year a group of slaves were brought to the American shores after being purchased by white settlers.

Nikole Hannah-Jones is an incredibly powerful speaker, and each episode is full of detailed information that is well fact-checked. There are even verbal recordings from people who were previously enslaved, and some horrifying recordings of white people discussing extremely vitriolic concerns about “mixing” of races. For those who want to understand what Black people have gone through, this is a must listen. It is not easy; it’s not something you can just casually listen to. The message is incredibly important and carefully considered.

1619 is available on all major podcast platforms.
