What If…? Killmonger saved Tony Stark

****SPOILERS AHEAD****

Listen…. watching this episode had me doing a whole lot of creative swearing. Basically my head did a giant keysmash. So, let’s get into it.

Marvel’s What If…? episode 6 was; What if Killmonger saved Tony Stark in Afghanistan? What it means is there is no Iron Man. And as much as I am not a huge Tony Stark fan, the Marvel world needs Iron Man. Tony Stark is a genius. He is also a dum dum. Like, for real. A DUM DUM. How he didn’t see that Killmonger was up to no good is beyond me, but then again, the Tony Stark in this universe is still heavily drinking so he is definitely compromised.

The idea behind this episode is that Killmonger is a brilliant tactition and he uses that ability to bend the world to his whims, which is basically becoming the Black Panther and uh, killing anyone that gets in his way. He uses Tony Stark and then gets him killed. He kills his cousin T’challa (once again, Boseman. I had no idea he did so much voice over work for this series before he left us. Every time he shows up my heart stutters). He kills Klaue. I just… there is a lot of murder in this series. It’s a lot darker than I had anticipated.

The upside to this episode seems to be that the women are going to save us all, judging by the last scene of Shuri surprising Pepper Potts and declaring they have a a shared enemy. Neither of the MCU actors reprised their roles, which continues to throw me off. It was fun to hear Rhodey voiced by Don Cheadle, as well as Happy being voiced by the lovely Jon Favreau. The list of actors who did come back is better this episode, but in my mind it’ll not be weird to hear Tony Stark voiced by anyone other than RDJ. That’s not to say the actor (Mick Wingert) didn’t do a good job, it’s just my brain being stubborn.

This was one of the stronger episodes so far. I might not like Tony Stark or his choices but they seem to make sense here, and the way the story unfolds also makes sense, no matter how often I swore at my TV this morning.  From what Ive read, we have three more episodes to watch, and I’m interested to see what else Marvel throws at us. (probably more death…lol)
