Teaser Trailer for ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’

This morning, we got the first teaser trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The movie is set just before Star Wars: A New Hope and centers on the group who first stole the Death Star plans and made everything else possible.

It is a full minute and a half–not bad, for a teaser trailer–and focuses on Jyn Erso, who may or may not be the “Rogue One” of the title (there is supposed to be a group here, after all). We learn very little about her, past the fact that she is that useful plot device, an orphan, and is both rebellious and smart-mouthed. A minute-and-a-half doesn’t do much for character development, so I’m going to assume there is more to her character than that.

There are at least a few familiar characters around–Mon Mothma, played by Genevieve O’Reill who is enough like Caroline Blakiston in the role. Can we get a movie about her, please? As the adult leader of the Rebellion (or part of it). There is also a quick look at what is probably General Tarkin standing there.

Rounding it off is a tough, black soldier and a harsh-voiced narrator who may or may not be the same thing, saying something ominous the way people change during war. That part is pretty much trailer-typical.

Playing behind this is a wistful, quiet version of the theme we all know so well, which makes me want very much to love Rogue One.
